Personal Biography

Hi there…Loren here. You can call me a he (coz I am one) and you can call me a folky kind of singer songwriter who likes to tell a story and loves to sing. I've been reared on the likes of Leonard Cohen, Bob Marley, Tracey Chapman, Neil Finn and Paul Simon. My songs are a rollercoaster of moods, rhythms and vibes and you'll find me subtly tipping my hat to these artists in my own kind of way.

I've been touring relentlessly around Australia for the past 7 years…both with my band and playing solo, mostly putting on my own ticketed shows in lovely venues to lovely people, but also playing as many festivals as I can squeeze in. I must have played well over a thousand gigs in that time….

The response to my music has been my driving force to navigate me through the inevitable trials and tribulations of relying on my music to support my family. When I play a show or a festival and there's a line of people at the merch table from little kids, to gen Y music lovers to working class footy lovers to grey nomads…I know that the music is connecting and translating across the board and I'm doing my job well.

I'll try to describe my music…I guess it's very melodic with obvious pop sensibilities but the songs are built on expressions of emotion and philosophy that expose my desire to understand the human condition….and I think it reaches people on this very basic human level. I'm not trying to be cool…or pretend to be an exceptional person, I'm just trying to be myself and I think that's why it relates to people across the board.

I've had plenty of regional and local airplay but so far my music hasn't fit in to commercial radio which doesn't really bother me except I would really love more people to be connecting with this music…all over the globe. It's slowly happening and although I'm still in the 'working my butt off' stage of my career, I am genuinely stoked at where my music has taken me and that people are supporting me to do this.
Career Biography

When asked to comment on Loren’s music, renowned Australian musician John Butler had this to say, "Loren writes the kind of music that when you listen to it you somehow feel like you¹re getting a massage. A sweet, gentle voice accompanied by relaxed melodically plucked guitar written by a man with a heart of gold. I've watched Loren play a few times and am always inspired by how effortless the music is."

Down to earth and humble, Loren is a true hard-working troubadour revealing a musical flair that can’t be ignored. Ever evolving and creating, Loren explores a myriad of feels and styles, and his eclecticism makes him hard to categorize. Any attempts at modern comparisons or pigeon holes don't quite work. What you experience is pure and raw original talent that appeals to a dreadlocked hippie, the local footy team, a fellow musician, a middle aged businessman, your kids and your grandma. The diverse demographic of people queuing up after a show at the merch table is direct evidence of this.

Loren was born in New Zealand, grew up in Western Australia and has since become a native of Northern NSW. He was raised in a musical family where he flourished creatively and picked up the guitar at a young age. Constant touring as a solo artist at the beginning of his career saw his fan base and reputation steadily build. He was then able to make the transition from pub gigs to ticketed shows at respected live music venues around the country. Courtesy of five releases and a huge live presence, Loren is a testament to what one can create within an independent music scene.

Loren has an impressive collection of festival appearances (often invited back many times), more than fifteen national tours of Australia, two of New Zealand and a recent tour of Canada and the US under his belt and has sold over ten thousand albums independently. He has received national airplay including Triple J, and has played with the likes of Lior, John Butler, Xavier Rudd, Ash Grunwald and Whitley to name a few.

The demand for Loren's music is evident in the number of fans that keep coming back for more, the support and respect he receives from street press, radio, fellow musicians, and the echoing of his name that resident bar flies around town can hear in passing conversations.

Loren gives an incredibly personal record through his music with an honesty and depth that shines. He possesses a rare energy onstage that demands attention, and has the natural gift of being able to tell a story in a song with skilful lyrical imagery, while delicately balancing self-expression and audience connection. With an extraordinary versatile and compelling voice, he absorbs inspiration from worldly destinations, life experiences, from deep within himself and from some of the great songwriters and musicians that walked before him, channeling it into something original, captivating, and dynamic. 'What I love about music is that it truly is a universal language... it reaches us on so many different levels and it reminds us of what connects us all. It's awesome to be a part of it in a live sense and also to know that people are enjoying it on an individual level in their own space.' Loren

Q & A

You're stranded alone on a deserted island for the rest of your life and you're given one last night of social interaction. You can have a dinner party and invite five living people and five people who will come back from the dead for one night... who are they?

Bob Marley ...he woud tell it like it is

Jesus Christ ...could have some good party tricks including plenty of wine (and we might need a doctor too)

Douglas Adams ... to tell us some stories after dinner

Mozart ... to get the jam going

Albert Einstein ... it seems like he was quite a dude

from the living....

Tracey Chapman ... to melt us with her voice

Dalai Lama ... to make sure everyone's smiling

Eminem ... you need an antagonist

Gary Larson ... to document the evening in cool cartoons

Kelly (my partner) ... to share those "what the ####!!" looks with.

On the island you have one book, one movie, one album and one food to sustain you..what are they?

My book would be the hitchhikers guide, my movie would be the princess bride, my album would be Confrontation (Bob Marley) and my one food...this is so hard...I was thinking potato coz it's so versatile when cooked but Mushrooms are versatile both cooked and raw...so I have to go with mushrooms.
